Do you have that ONE photo that makes you smile? Or brings back a special memory of a person or event from long ago? I’m sure you can answer one or both of these questions with an emphatic YES.
Since I was a young teenager I have loved photos! I loved taking photos and enjoying photos along with the art of photography. Two memories about photos stand out to me.
First, I remember pulling out my mother’s black paper scrapbook albums and going through them, enjoying the stories of her youth, her (my) family and growing up years, then loving the photos of her and my father as a young married couple. I didn’t realize it at the time but these photos and the documentation that went along with them would shape me and my future endeavors with my own family photos and, ultimately, my career choice. Who knew back then that I would spend 31 years (and counting) helping others preserve, protect and enjoy their own memories!
I also remember the slide shows of my grandparents’ travels. At the time, these photos of far away lands (and few people) didn’t mean much but I believe they instilled in me a future love of travel.
What stands out to you when you think about your family memories? Is it the old paper pictures? Or is it videos that are hidden on movie reels, VHS tapes or DVDs? It doesn’t matter what format your memories are in, you can enjoy them. Chances are you have been hanging on to them for years, sometimes moving them again and again but never forgetting them or letting them far from your sight.
Think about that ONE photo or memory that stands out. Why not do something with it to celebrate the person, wedding, party or trip? It’s your memory, have fun with it!
